چکیده
The research objective is assessment of structural genomic damages in plutonium workers. The study group included workers of the Mayak Production Association subjected to chronic occupational internal exposure to incorporated Pu and/or external γ-rays. A lymphocyte culture of peripheral blood was chosen as an object of study. The yield of intrachromosomal exchange aberrations of chromosomal type on stained slides was analyzed using fluorescent in situ hybridization, mBAND. Linear relationships were revealed between (a) the total yield of chromosomal type aberrations (intraand interchromosomal ones) and the absorbed dose from external exposure of the red bone marrow (RBM) to γ-rays, the absorbed dose from internal exposure of the RBM to α-radiation from incorporated Pu, and Pu body burden, and (b) the yield of intrachromosomal aberrations and an absorbed dose from internal exposure of the RBM to Pu and Pu body burden.

Retrospective assessment of radiation dose by Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization and evaluation of stable chromosomal aberrations
Estimation of absorbed dose for radiation workers or person involved in different radiological accident is the aim of biodosimetry. Cytogenetic methods are the most current and applicable biodosimetry tools. In chronic or protracted exposure, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), stable chromosomal aberration is used for estimation of absorbed dose. For precise estimation of absorbed dose,...

The growing use of ionizing radiation in various sectors of industry, medicine, agriculture and research has increased the risk of radiation exposure of staff and people. Ionizing radiation as a strong clastogen can cause different types of DNA damages and chromosomal aberrations. Biological dosimetry, based on the cytogenetic analysis of peripheral blood lymphocytes has a wide application in d...
متن کاملIn vitro radioprotective effects of histamine H2 receptor antagonist against gamma-rays induced chromosomal aberrations in human lymphocytes.
Background: Radioprotective capability of histamine H2 receptor antagonists have been shown in several in vivo studies mainly using animal models. However, to verify the effectiveness of these agents in clinical applications, studies should be performed on human cells. In the present study radioprotective properties of these agents was examined in vitro on human lymphocytes using metaphase anal...
متن کاملRadiosensitizing effects of melatonin on radiation induced chromosomal aberration in G2-lymphocytes of breast cancer patients
Background: Radiotherapy is regarded as a standard treatment modality in breast cancer (BC). Radiation causes cellular damage both in cancer and normal cells by inducing DNA-damage and chromosomal aberrations (CA). Different agents were used for ameliorating effects of radiation, mainly antioxidants such as melatonin. Melatonin shows oncostatic properties on human BC. The aim of this study was ...
متن کاملDetermination of dose-response relationship in cultured human lymphocytes for biological dosimetry
Background: Lymphocyte-dicentric assay is the most generally accepted method for biological dosimetry of overexposed individuals. In this study, the frequency of unstable chromosome aberration in blood lymphocytes was used to estimate radiation dose received by individuals. Evaluation of dose using a calibration curve produced elsewhere may have a significant uncertainty therefore, experiments ...
